Escalator Courtesy in Hong Kong – “Left Walk, Right Stand”

Every country has their own manner and courtesy for daily activities. In Hong Kong, when you ride an escalator, the normal courtesy is “Left Walk, Right Stand”; which means you will use the left side of the escalator to walk up or down, and stand on the right side if you keep standing.

Hong Kong people have a fast pace of life and you can find it when they use escalator. People usually walking quickly on the escalator, therefore don’t be surprised if someone keeps saying “excuse me” behind you and walk pass you on the escalator. Just try to understand their normal practice and you’ll find your journey pleasant and enjoyable. 🙂
